Dr Declan Garrett is a Security Risk Management Consultant. He is a Doctor of Security Risk Management.

He describes himself as a pracademic, an academic and a practitioner of security risk management. He anchors his expertise in the security risk management body of knowledge and practice. He is a thought leader on Private Security Career Paths.

His research interests include training and education, human resource management in private security, professionalism of private security, situational crime prevention, counter-terrorism, art crime and museum security.

He serves on ASIS Internationals Cultural Properties Council and chairs their Museum Committee. He is also the Head of International Research and a Governor of the Board of Governors for Academic Standards at the Security Institute of Ireland. Dr Garrett has presented at seminars on topics including Museum Security, Counter Terrorism, Advancing the Private Security Sector, Career Paths and Training and Education and he has contributed to European research project teams that developed competences for the private security sector and intercultural training for the prevention of extremism.

His publications include Asset Risk Management, Protecting Works of Art from Theft, and Private Security Career Paths: establishing the foundations of a structured progression model for the manned guarding sector.
