Learning curve & instructional guide

Most Important: The interview is only as good as the interviewer

The professional is highly self-aware and able to regulate their emotions and interviewing style

Self Monitoring.

You have your own unique learning curve besides the results that were taken on average from all users recorded below

Each week record in your self-assessment questionnaire by asking yourself 2 questions, namely

  1. How do I find my level of situational awareness?
  2. What is happening in my interactions with others?

You will be amazed at your own results!

Learning Curve

This skill is mastered by going through the learning curve method and skill interaction according to the instructional guide below.

This learning curve is designed and based on feedback from users.

We repeat, ‘the Learning Curve must be read and referred to from time-to-time, so that you can understand your natural learning method and the impact that you will experience”.

You will be able to monitor yourself weekly against each chapter and know where you are standing emotionally and intellectually.

Based on the easy learning method ‘Watch and Learn’, Do – Experience – Embed
The blended educational mechanisms contain the slider, video clips and toolboxes. Access the course tool just before meeting others.
In this way you will easily prime the brain and activate your mind-set to instinctively being present.

The daily use by effortless practicing and following the sequence for reading people heightens situational awareness levels to the optimum.

Your own life is your classroom

Your lab is people that you meet daily, who could be the butcher, baker or the guard at the door. By asking simple questions, you will be able to hear their replies and see their reactions which gives you a great interactive experience to build a strong foundation for investigative interviewing.

Furthermore, watch reality shows

Reality shows such as Crime Channel, Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown, Jeremy Kyle,COPS, Big Brother, Master Chef, and Survivor, many of which is on CBS Reality is highly recommended.

Furthermore, watch the news channels and interviews. Listen to the questions and listen to the answers watching the indicators.
Go to specific venues to see specific emotions. For example; going to watch court cases, boxing matches, weddings, funerals, parties and business functions. Look and listen to people paying attention to their ‘word language’ working in conjunction with their eyes, face and hand movements’

Do not rush!

Some people go through this tool for first-time and experience paranoid because they feel that everybody is lying to them or hiding something. However, as they follow the cycles as prescribed then their assessment of others clarifies their perspective.

There may be an urgent personal reason that you feel you need-to-know where you stand with someone.
As a result, you may want to rush the learning curve by jumping right into a conversation.

Hold off for a few days – be patient.
The truth will come out sooner than you think.

Outcomes, Impact and Instruction

Week 1.   Becoming” Situational Aware”

  1. The student observing cultural reactions by paying attention to gestures regarding proximity, eyes, hands, face and feet movement places the student’s awareness level immediately on a higher plain.
  2. Paying attention for a few weeks to eye movement, facial expressions and hand displays of all people heightens the student’s awareness level even more so. Perhaps, this is the first time for many to understand the language of expressions or cultural behaviour.
  3. Thereafter, the language awareness of questioning and understanding people’s replies establishes the awareness level to the optimum.

2. Change in communication

The student begins to focus more than ever before on people.
They tend to be more observant than voicing opinions.

3. Observation confusion

The mind may be a bit confused with the information overload from what is seen. In the beginning seeing all the eye, face and hand movements could confuse one.

Follow the step-by-step process and slowly but surely you will be able to filter the information.

Action.

Watch and Learn’ from your own real-life experiences: Simply activate the course just before meeting others in order to ‘mind-set’ yourself and secondly when focusing specifically on a chapter of HIM

  1. Read from Objectives through countries & cultures, brain engineering and PRACTICAL APPLICATION BEGINS! – Eye Talk
The first time you go through the course, briefly view the countries and cultures.
  2. Proceed to Brain Engineering intro.
  3. then go through to and complete Eye Talk

In week 1 – Ask simple questions to identify the baseline of people’s eyes.  (as per in the workshop material)

Begin now through the cycle and complete Eye Talk

Week 2. – The Facial Expressions

  1. Pay attention to the facial expressions of people by asking people positive questions or make statements that invoke facial expressions that is in the course material.(Face Talk)
  2. Watch people having a conversation and listen to the words and watch the facial reactions while they are replying.

We noticed that students who watch reality TV tend to pick up facial indicators more quickly.

Go to Face Talk

Week 3 – The Facial Expressions and Hand Movement

Noticeably the students are becoming more observant as they are now paying attention to hand movement as-well-as the face. Some seem to be even more surprised by hand movement as they interpret people’s emotions and reactions just as well as in the face.

It was suggested to students to first pay attention to the movement of hand displays above the shoulders. In the last few days of the week begin to see hand movement in conjunction with people’s emotions by standing back and looking at a larger picture of them.

Instruction: Ask simple” emotional questions”, listen to their words while watching their face and hands.
[How do you feel about? Do you like? Which is your favorite?]

Go to Hand Talk

 Week 4+5 – Asking Questions

This is where the students seem to ask more direct questions to see the indicators are working in conjunction with what they hear.

This is where confusion sets in again, as the chapter containing how to pay attention to the replies has not been read and applied.

Therefore, read the chapter” How the lie works” and pay attention to the questions and the replies. Pay attention this week on asking questions and listening to the replies.

Doing the cycle 2nd Time round. [Then go back again to the” Asking questions” and begin again.]

Deception detection & Situational interviewing Part 1

Week 5+6 – Listening to the Replies

In the first cycle people tend to ”listen” what people say and later on while going through the cycles they begin to ”hear” to what is being said.

We found that this is the week that students begin to focus on listening to the replies. Focus listening more to the words, tone, speed and consistency of stories being told. At the same time, watch the indicators of face and hands in conjunction to what you hear more carefully.

Part 2

Week 6+7  The Bluff

The Bluff is a lie but is used more of a testing tool by people.

Asking the right question – at the right time – for the right reason

And in negotiation – add : at the right price.

Go  – The Bluff

Week 8  SPI

Situation – Position -Implications (SPI Formula): Apply this week in conjunction from part 2 till your last week cycle of SPI

When you seem to be getting comfortable using the questions and listening to the replies, then begin to step in and out of the SPI Formula. In this way, you will begin to structure the questioning method more effectively.

Students tend to let us know that they seem to pause more in the questioning methods now and listen even more so.

Go to SPI

Week 9 – Putting It All Together.

Begin this week with adding the facial and hand talk. Try to sit down and ask the questions to a person standing in order to get a full length picture of that person so that you can observe the indicators.

At the end of week add eyes (eyes, face  and hands)  when that person is replying.

Doing the course cycle again will produce other results

Each time you REPEAT THE Cycle

– You experience different & Better outcomes

We repeat, ”the first time going through the course cycle is an experience of bewilderment.
The student may find that they pick up on mostly, what ‘You’ see.
All students have reported back that their social situational awareness has heightened.

The second time around; the students seem to extract reliable and more USABLE information as they are able to ask pertinent and smarter questions. Consequently, the learners understand more of a person on what they see, as well as what the people say.

When repeating the cycle, the second time – in the first week – read through countries and cultures before meeting others. The reading of a few lines will take minutes and in time the knowledge will be used instinctively. Then proceed in the second week by following the step-by-step as instructed before. Do not think that you know the information and rush through it, as you are training your brain to react instinctively.

The third time; brings the student into a new dimension by being able to manage emotions of others more so than simply extracting reliable and usable information. Students have reported that only after a highly successful outcome to a situation by utilizing their knowledge, do they understand how effective these methods are.

Go Back to Index

The fourth time; – the students tend to begin to HIM techniques as they are now beginning to disguise their true emotions at times when required. The Hostage negotiators or other professionals must keep repeating the cycles (as prescribed) to maintain their skill-craft to peek performance.
