Evaluate – Interview – Investigate (using critical thinking situational knowledge and techniques that are found in the guidance articles and manuscripts)

We are constantly in a heightened state of situational awareness and evaluating (critical thinking situational interviewing) when chatting to people. When we notice discrepancies such as they are lying, hiding or sharing information then we upgrade our mind-set to interviewing mode. When there is deeper deception identified during the interview then we must discover why the person is reacting with deception to comprehend the narrative (big picture) and situational awareness (dissecting situational awareness) by using SPI [Situation, Position Implications] for using the best suited method of mental environment to consider and method of approach. This is now using critical situational awareness interviewing to discover the true situation by way of detecting a new issue, or to discovering if the issue is copycat

An Example at the Airport or any border control point.

There would be a basic criterion to evaluate if the visitor could be inclined to being deceptive at the airport. If there is room for concern, we use ***SPI to consider if they are illegally trying to traffic woman, girls, boys or transporting illegal goods be it animals, food, drugs, or any items that are prohibited. Do note, that we did not write ‘trafficking in people’ but did spell out ‘woman, girls and boys’ to impress upon you the seriousness of the situation in order for you to pay attention to the detail in understanding SPI.

Using non – intrusive questions one could quickly determine how a person-of-concern feels about the country, religion, their travel companions or the person that is there to collect them. Evaluating in this setting is simply to use the quick detection method to discover emotions on how they feel about certain issues mentioned. When there is room for concern then the person is upgraded to interview and possibly a more investigative interviewing approach.

*****SPI. The SPI is used in this instance to design a question-set for specific scenarios and reasons to validate authentic tourists, vet migration and to identify criminal or terror intentions.
