Be careful as perhaps they may have had a medical issue with their nose when they were a kid. Therefore it is imperative to find their base-line and if undetected you can assume deception

Or

He is comforting himself. He is hiding something, he does not have confidence in his words and he fears the implications.

He is embarrassed to say – he is hiding something
